Many of you will know that some of the big Japanese mass-produced car manufacturers have a very luxury brand associated with them. Nissan has Infiniti,Toyota has Lexus but now BYD from China has Yang Wang. This enormous machine is the Yang Wang u8 and it is a plug-in hybrid. This particular car does have a particular set of skills for one thing it can turn on its axis it can do a tank turn and for another thing if you make a mistake and drive into a river you just drive it to the other side of the river and drive out.
The Yang Wang u8 is a plug-in hybrid and there is a petrol engine under the hood. This vehicle is so exceptional, it is a series hybrid that means that the petrol engine is not mechanically connected to the wheels in any way. it operates as a generator so this vehicle can do about 85 to 90 Miles on battery alone which is what you’re going to use for the vast majority of the time you have the car but you can do then 600 miles when you’ve got a tank full of petrol to burn it’s got lithium ion phosphate battery chemistry built by BYD.
They are a battery company that makes cars, not a car company that is scrabbling around looking for Batteries. it has close to 12200 horsepower it’s got one motor for each wheel so each wheel is individually driven by a motor all this made by BYD. It has four Motors that are controlling each wheel separately and it can do this ridiculous thing, I don’t know where you’d use it maybe in a car park when you just bought some milk and you needed to turn this vehicle around it will do a tank turn that means that literally the wheels on one side are turning one way and the wheels on the other side are turning the other way.
Probably not good for long-term tire wear but the fact that it can do it and a vehicle this size can do it is absolutely amazing it also means it’s off-road capabilities are off the scale it could it can deal with incredibly difficult terrain and sand and things like that that the combustion engine four-wheel drives really struggle with but let’s just quickly mention the fact of its capabilities of floating. They do not advise you to do it it is not something you should do every day
But if by any chance you accidentally drive off the side of a road into a river, this car will float and it will cut off the petrol engine no matter what’s going on. It will drive the wheels with the electric motor because electric electricity and water are much safer and more reliable than petrol engines and water. If you put a petrol engine underwater it will stop forever but the electric motors will keep going and it will spin the wheels and that will drive you along.You can steer it to go to the other bank. It’s safe to be in water for about 30 minutes. The sunroof automatically opens so in a really dire emergency you can still get out of the car easily but the fact is you can drive into a river or a lake and you’re not going to sink

The Yang Wang u9 has a karaoke microphone and you can sing to your heart’s content obviously not while you’re driving, that would be unsafe but maybe your passengers want to do it. and you think I’ll just have a bit of a sing hello time. The stats for this vehicle are completely incredible. It’s just short of 1,300 horsepower and can do 0 to 100 km an hour in around 2 seconds. It has a top speed of 186 mph.
It is an 800v platform with four BYD electric Motors one for each wheel and it can perform tank turns as well as each motor has 322 horsepower or 240 Kow of power on each individual motor that’s like four cars in one car it can be charged quite quickly so it can go from 30 to 80% in 10 minutes
You can charge it on both sides of the car. You can plug in 250 Kw on both sides so you’re charging the car up 500KW. The battery capacity on this car is 80 kilowatt hours which can give it a range of, say, around 220 miles. What really makes this car Stand Out is the suspension. The u9 has intelligent body control. This is a next level of computer control suspension that can be activated in milliseconds.
When you put your foot down the car doesn’t lift up as you rock it forward like all cars do, The car stays level, the suspension levels the car out if you go around a corner really fast it doesn’t tip to one side it stays absolutely flat if you break incredibly hard it stays flat the suspension is so incredibly finely tuned and powerful that it can literally lower the car right down then bring it up in the air.
They’ve been demonstrating this all over the world with this car, it is quite quite extraordinary the estimated price for the u9 in the UK and Europe would be $184,000 I mean a incredible amount of money that would be $233,000 in the US or € 216,000 so it’s really not a cheap car.
However if you compare it with the other cars that I mentioned the rimac NAA is Around 2 million and the New PININFARINA B95 is over 3 million so this car this incredible achievement in break technological breakthrough technology just extraordinary, it is about a sixth of the cost of its Rivals this one probably goes faster in a straight line goes faster around corners can stop quicker and has a longer electric range and definitely charges quicker than any of them that really has to be taken into consideration.
The interior is massive, you know analog and Butch switches and all that stuff, this plain and simple small screen, really responsive as soon as you touch it it changes, there’s no lag or difficulty of really knowing how the car runs. There’s a little phone holder that looks like your phone would just slide off but as soon as you put a phone on it goes down and it holds your phone safely and securely in. The car has really comfortable seats and very tightly holding a person. They are good racing seats because the BYD is a performance car. The materials that are used on the interior are beautiful it’s it’s very high-end.
Conclusion:
The most extraordinary thing is this is not a prototype. This is a production car and lots of them have been made and the fit and finish is off the scale. The Challenge from China is mind boggling for the automotive industry with an incredible super powerful super fast incredible car. This absolute monster is a huge SUV with a petrol engine and battery in it. Byd have been achieving at break next speed and this company didn’t exist 2 years ago and look what they’ve made already is an incredible achievement.
