Uganda Under17 provisional squad for AFCON zonal qualifiers named

FUFA has announced the Uganda Cubs provisional squad list for the AFCON Under 17 Zonal Qualifiers. The team, which will be under the tutelage of newly appointed former Kitara head coach Brian Ssenyondo for the first time, is already undergoing a residential training camp in Njeru.

Uganda will host the competition from December 14th to 28th.Nine teams have signed up, with Rwanda, Kenya, Burundi, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Sudan, Somalia and South Sudan joining the hosts. The best two teams at the tournament will qualify for the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF U17 AFCON.

There are four goalkeepers; Lukyamuzi Ashraf of KCCA FC Soccer Academy, Waibi Edrisah of Buddo SS, Masaba Herbert of Latifah Mixed SS and Kirungi Eden of Kitara FC Junior Team.

The backline is comprised by Soltilo Bright Stars FC Junior Team trio Ssemakalu Sudais, Kalule Moses and Musaazi Marvin, KCCA FC Soccer Academy pair Steven Oyirwoth and Pius Oyirwoth and Masaka Sunshine FC duo Torach Elvis and Sengooba Hamuza.

Rays of Grace Soccer Academy’s Tom Ssesazi, Vipers SC Junior Team’s Ronald Kigoye, Kombi Eze and Garang Alfred Feni of Edgars Youth Programme, Godi Akbar Musa of Bukedea Progressive SS and BUL FC Junior Team’s Reagan Budali have all been called up.

Eleven midfielders have been named; with KCCA FC Soccer Academy having two; Ijara Brian and Ogema Thomas. Vipers SC also has two representatives; Ssebagala Ibra from the Junior Team and Walusimbi Abubakali, who made his senior debut aged just fifteen one year ago.

Murungi Elton of Latifah Mixed SS, Atendele Bob Jeliga of Edgars Youth Program, Saviour Mungujakisa of Ray’s of Grace Soccer Academy and Kabiito Marvin of Prosper Soccer Academy have all been named, as have Magala Isima Mulala of Masaka Sunshine FC, Owino Brian John of Jinja SS and Ntege Abdul Lukenge of Dynamic SS.

The team contains nine forwards; with Austin Amani, who plays in EFL League Two side Harrogate Town’s academy the most notable inclusion, along with FUFA President Moses Magogo’s son Shakur Baggio Magogo of Namilyango College. BUL FC is the only team with multiple players; Richard Okello, who has already made his senior bow for the UPL side and Maturu Ivan who is in the Junior Team.

Bagenda Enock of Soltilo Bright Stars FC Junior Team is included, as are Wanyama Simon of Rays of Grace Soccer Academy, Bogere James of Masaka Sunshine FC, Nkoola Arafat of Vipers SC Junior Team and Ssetimba W. Morgan of Jinja SS.
