Put calls up 28 for national team duty

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has summoned 28 players for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against South Africa and Congo. Uganda will visit South Africa on the 6th of next month, before then hosting Congo three days later.

The team is made up of eight locally based players,nineteen foreign based players and one free agent.

It includes three goalkeepers;South Africa based duo Isima Watenga of Golden Arrows FC and Charles Lukwago of Venda FC,as well as Nafian Alionzi of Ethiopia’s Defence Forces.

James Begisa who plays for URA FC and SC Villa’s Arnold Odongo are the two locally based defenders.Elio Capradossi who impressed on his debut against Botswana has been called up despite currently being clubless.

St.Mirren’s Elvis Bwomono and FC Ashdod’s Timothy Awany have been summoned.As have Viktoria Zizkov’s Isaac Muleme and FC Slovan Liberec’s Abdu Aziizi Kayondo.Famagusta Anorthosis defender Bevis Mugabe completes the list of Europe-based members of the backline.

Joseph Ochaya of Egypt’s Al Mokawloon Al Arab FC is joined by Kenneth Semakula of Tunisian side Club Africaine.

Halidi Lwaliwa who plays for Saudi First Division club Al Ain is the eleventh defender called up.Put revealed that the latter two names would not be involved against South Africa due to visa issues.They are expected to play against Congo at Namboole,though.

Yanga lynchpin Khalid Aucho headlines the midfield selection alongside Travis Mutyaba of Zamalek SC.

KCCA FC pair Joel Sserunjogi and Saidi Mayanja have also been called up,alongside freshly appointed SC Villa captain Ronald Ssekiganda.

The forward line includes three locally based players;Kitara FC duo Jude Ssemugabi and Denis Omedi,along with Allan Okello of Vipers.

Simba SC striker Steven Mukwala makes the team,as does Ochaya’s clubmate Joackiam Ojera.FC Brera Strumica’s Rogers Mato and Al Hilal Benghazi striker Muhammad Shaban are also part of the squad.

Calvin Kabuye of Sandvikens IF will hope to make his debut for the Cranes,as this is his first call up.
