First things first,this lad is one of the most criminally underrated artistes in the country at the moment.He seems to have fallen into that trap of supreme talents who only get praise for the songs they write for others,despite having mindblowing catalogues themselves.But those who know know.He exhibits his ability so impressively on the dancehall number Kupakasa,which he released a couple of months ago.
Producer Morta cooked up the track as well as the engineering at Upper Records.Summarily speaking,the song is about a lover so gorgeous that keeping her requires Fyno to lock in.Short of that,he risks losing her.Fyno expresses this succinctly in his choice of lyrics for the chorus,proclaiming “Amazima omuntu okukusigaza alina kupakasa nyo”.
Loosely translatable as “To be honest for someone to keep you,they gotta hustle hard”.The implication being; failure to do that leaves him at risk of losing her to somebody with more resources.My attention was grabbed by the distressed “woowe…yaaye” in the background.I couldn’t escape the anguish he feels about the situation he finds himself in.
He opens the song as he intends to go on,imploring “Tonyiga nonkuba amatafali/Leeta nendaba nze ku mapapali”.First imagine what these pawpaws he longs to see look like.He is up to no good,this Fyno.The innuendo doesn’t stop there.He ends the intro by saying “Bangambye yeggwe nnanyini Bujagali”.Which means “I’ve been informed you own Bujagali “.Anybody with basic knowledge of SST surely knows what that reference is all about.
He then spends the first(or is it second?) verse making various promises of what he will do once she agrees to stay with him.The first being to keep her trendy and hot(presumably with the funds from his hustling).The others including him hustling even more so her only job can be to kuwanika mabbango.This man is a top tier simp.
I could write about Fyno’s way with words all day,but it would be unfair to not give Morta his flowers too.The bass is thumping and the drums instantly etch themselves into your conscious mind on first listen.The rolls that begin and straddle the entirety of the intro.My word.The producer is building quite the reputation and with work like this,it is unlikely he will be stopped anytime soon.
