The summer transfer window slammed shut yesterday the 31st of August. It was a typically busy deadline day as Premier League clubs rushed to assemble squads capable of meeting their objectives. A slew of transfers happened not only yesterday, but also since the window opened back on 14th June.
Last summer saw a number of transfers that went on to define the buying club’s season. Cole Palmer almost singlehandedly took Chelsea into the top six.£105m man Declan Rice turned Arsenal into bonafide title contenders. And Guglielmo Vicario proved a bargain for Tottenham Hotspurs after a £17m move.
So,which of this summer’s movers might be perceived as the best deals in a year’s time. Some of them are big money signings that could transform their new teams. Others are relatively cheap buys who could turn out to steals. Let’s dig in;
1.Raheem Sterling
We start off with a deadline day move that would probably have been described as blockbuster. if Sterling were not seemingly past his best. Sterling was basically forced out of Chelsea and will cross over to their London rivals with a chip on his shoulder. Mikel Arteta has developed a reputation for revitalising apparently faded stars. Sterling could be his latest pet project after Jorginho and Kai Havertz.
2.Jadon Sancho
Replacing Sterling at Stamford Bridge is Jadon Sancho. The enigmatic former Borussia Dortmund winger will have a point to prove after ending his Manchester United nightmare. He is evidently talented, but he will have to prove that he is a Premier League player quality. Chelsea might just be the place for him to do that, if Enzo Maresca can figure out how to maximize his ability.
3.Manuel Ugarte
Manchester United have traded the goal scoring nous of Scott McTominay for the rabid pressing and tough tackling of Manuel Ugarte. So often last season if felt like United had a hole in the middle, as Casemiro struggled with protecting the backline. Ugarte is a direct attempt at rectifying that as he is perceived a younger more mobile version of the legendary Brazilian. If it works, Ugarte could elevate the Red Devils by adding much needed solidity in the middle of the park.
4.Federico Chiesa
This window has only two incomings.In fact, Chiesa is the only player who will play for Liverpool this season, and he joins with strong hopes of being the deal of the summer. Liverpool just had to pay £12 million to sign the 26-year-old Italian international. But that was only because he had one year left on his contract and was disliked by new Juventus manager Thiago Motta. If Chiesa can regain the form that led Juventus to sign him from Fiorentina. He could turn out to be a wise acquisition for Arne Slot’s team.
